Jonathan Barada will be stepping down as President and CEO of the Bloomington Health Foundation (BHF) this fall. He has been with the local non-profit for nearly eight years.
Barada joined Bloomington Health Foundation, then-named Bloomington Hospital Foundation, in 2013. During his tenure, he led several successful endeavors for the organization, including fundraising efforts to expand the Hospice House, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and Trauma Departments at IU Health Bloomington Hospital, hosting a record-setting 20th anniversary of Hoosiers Outrun Cancer benefiting local cancer patients, partnering to fund the Stride Crisis Diversion Center for those experiencing substance use disorder, and overseeing $3M in grant support to benefit the health of the greater Bloomington community since 2018. Most recently, in partnership with the Community Justice & Mediation Center, BHF received a $675,000 national grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to help our community build a stronger engagement infrastructure, so that marginalized and underserved communities can be heard in healthcare policymaking decisions.
Barada has also been instrumental in guiding the organization during its transition to the Bloomington Health Foundation and has been working diligently to forge new partnerships that will impact the health of the community. Recently, BHF was recognized by the Greater Bloomington Chamber of Commerce and the Hoosier Hills Foodbank for their efforts, in conjunction with the Monroe County Health Department and others, to mitigate the impacts of COVID-19.
“Reflecting on these achievements, I am filled with immense pride and am grateful for these shared successes,” Barada said. “I can confidently say that, together with our incredible staff, board, and stakeholders, we have made great strides in improving numerous health-related issues across our region.” Though Barada is stepping down from the organization as a staff member, he will continue his service to BHF as a member of its board of directors.
“While we will certainly miss Jon’s skillful day-to-day leadership, we are glad to maintain his invaluable knowledge as part of the board. We are immensely grateful for his guidance during a crucial period for our organization and we also look forward to building upon our over 50-year history and the opportunities to leverage a new strategic vision for a healthier tomorrow,” said BHF Board Chair Tedd Green.
Barada will be stepping into the Vice President role at IU Ventures, an affiliate of Indiana University focused on assisting IU students, faculty, staff, and alums with advancing high potential new venture opportunities. His transition date is set for December 4.
BHF has initiated the search for its new President and CEO.
