Coming out of summer and a season of vacations, getting back to the workout routine can be a struggle. Constantly contemplating and procrastinating getting started always seems to be a huge step to getting back on track. Working out doesn’t have to be that difficult to get back to after whatever hiatus it was that you were taking off. Here are some tips on how to stop overthinking and get back on the workout wagon!

If you are a person that has always belonged to a gym and dread going because of the competition or awkwardness that it can sometimes bring, maybe try working out from home. Working out from home allows you to feel comfortable in a setting that you’re familiar with. It allows you to go at your own pace during workouts and focuses more on yourself than what others are doing around you. It is also a more convenient option when you’re trying to squeeze a workout into your busy schedule.

Speaking of busy schedules, actually scheduling your workouts can be quite a game-changer. Making sure to carve out time on your calendar for when you want to work out is key to making sure it actually happens. Working out in the morning is a good option for some people as they can prioritize a workout before the stressors of a workday occur. This way, after a workday, you can relax instead of trying to get motivation for a workout. Working out in the morning will also give you a sense of accomplishment before you even get started with your workday.

Setting realistic and achievable goals is also important when working out. Trying to work out at a max capacity, especially when coming back from not having a routine, is very difficult and can be draining. So, setting weekly workout goals, like working out three times a week, that can be achieved will end up helping you more in the long run. Then once you hit that goal, you will feel accomplished and inspired to keep meeting that goal and even expand on it!

If working out from home is your thing, then setting up a designated gym area is essential. The easiest route would be if you could have a designated gym area where all the equipment is ready at your disposal. But for most, designated gym space within their home is not something that they have. That being said, putting out the workout equipment the night before is a great alternative that will help you get excited to work out in the future. Keeping this designated area, whether it is just for working out or used for multiple activities, will keep the workout routine more consistent and allow you to keep furthering your goals.

All of these tips will help you in your future endeavors for not only getting back to working out but also achieving your long-term fitness goals. Not everyone will have the same workout routine or gym setup, but don’t let that stop you from becoming the best and healthiest version of yourself!
