Monroe County Health Department Offering Super Shot Clinics

After the recent approval of the COVID-19 Pfizer vaccine for children ages 5-11 by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and emergency use authorization by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Monroe County is looking to make getting vaccinated more convenient for families.

The Monroe County Health Department and IU Health Bloomington Hospital will work alongside local school systems to hold “Super Shot” clinics. These clinics will provide the COVID-19 Pfizer vaccine for children ages 5-11 both during and after school hours.

Penny Caudill, the administrator of the Monroe County Health Department, explained, “This gets us one step closer to reducing the need for masks in schools.”

Parents should check with their child’s school for more information and the required vaccination consent forms.

Indiana Recovery Alliance in Monroe County to Receive Grant to Help Curb Drug Epidemic

Last week Governor Eric J. Holcomb announced that the state would fund a $1.7 million investment to reach Hoosiers at risk of a drug overdose.

Governor Holcomb stated, “Substance use is aggressively attacking Hoosier lives, families, and communities.” According to provisional data released in July by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Indiana reported a 33% increase in fatal overdoses in 2020.

This grant will aid statewide Harm Reduction Street Outreach (HRSO) teams who provide harm reduction strategies and resources such as naloxone and pamphlets to members of their community.

In Monroe County, Indiana Recovery Alliance will be receiving a grant to help our at-risk community members through harm reduction, substance use, recovery, and/or homeless services.
