Indiana University Reports Lower Infection Rates

Indiana University’s COVID-19 cases are maintaining a level rate even as cases across the state of Indiana continue to increase and the semester continues.

According to IU Chief Health Officer Dr. Aaron Carroll, “Cases went up during the week everyone came back to campus and classes started, but they’ve remained somewhat stable, nowhere near the levels of what we saw last year.” Carroll explained, “That’s largely due to vaccination.”

All combined, IU campuses have reported that 88.2% of students, faculty, and staff have received at least their first shot. Locally, IU-Bloomington is at 92.2%.

Carroll believes that IU campus’s higher vaccination rates and fewer hospitalizations can be attributed to IU’s vaccine mandate, which was enforced at the start of the fall semester.
