Hoosier Hills Food Bank announced the arrival of a new refrigerated box truck named “Annie” on January 20th. The name represents the anonymous donors and clients their agencies serve. Anonymous individuals contributed funds for the truck in addition to gifts from Bloomington Health Foundation, IU Credit Union, City of Bloomington, IN – Office of the Mayor, Community Foundation of Bloomington and Monroe County, Oliver Winery, and others.

“Annie” replaced the over 30-year-old box truck “Jumbo,” which had traveled over 250,000 miles delivering food to Monroe, Brown, Lawrence, Orange, Owen, and Martin Counties. A new truck was desperately needed as 2019 brought the food bank the busiest year in their 37-year history, distributing more than 5 million pounds of food in the region.

Hoosier Hills Food Bank Executive Director and CEO Julio Alonso said, “This truck will stand as a clear example of how we get everything done — with support from individuals, businesses, foundations, and government from across our service area. We asked the community to help us meet a huge challenge, and they did. ‘Annie’ will have a big influence on our ability to provide services for at least 10 years so it’s a great way to start the new decade.”
