Debbie Lemon
Secretary, Indiana University Board of Trustees
Vice-Chair, BHF Board of Directors

How long have you been part of the BHF board and why did you join?

Originally, I served on the Bloomington Hospital Foundation Board from 2000 to 2012. I then rejoined the BHF board in 2019.

As a native of Bloomington/Monroe County, I care deeply about the quality of life in our community. Bloomington Health Foundation is playing an increasingly important role in supporting health care issues and initiatives that directly impact and improve our quality of life. I am very excited to be a part of BHF and to tackle new health initiatives.

Is there a BHF project you are especially proud of? Why?

I have been profoundly impressed by the range of programs and services BHF has supported in such a short period of time. The extensive collaborations in issues related to health, wellness, and community well-being have informed the Foundation’s strategies in funding multiple initiatives. It is hard to single out one however I do view the partnership in the Stride Coalition to be a bold and impactful coalition to truly coordinate treatment efforts in Monroe County. This unique collaboration will have a long term impact on so many of our community members and their families.

Why should our community invest in Bloomington Health Foundation?

Supporting the Foundation through philanthropic gifts will provide numerous opportunities to meet health, wellness, and quality of life needs in the community. The outreach of BHF is comprehensive and those choosing to support its work will find a breadth of programs and initiatives that fit a donor’s personal affinities. From the High-Impact Community Health Solutions Fund, to Hoosiers Outrun Cancer, to mental health, to infants, to healthcare scholarships, and much, much more. I recommend that for those that are new to the work of BHF that you visit the website, subscribe to their monthly newsletter, and keep an eye on their social media pages to discover the myriad of ways BHF is making a difference.
