Yes, we know, it’s hot! With school being out, kids being home, and the summer temps not wanting to let up, trying to find activities to keep the entire family happy can seem impossible.

Don’t fret! Here are some fun, healthy, and stimulating activities that will keep your children moving and the entire family happy, even in this summer heat!

1. Get outside early! During this time of the year, the coolest part of the day is in the early morning. Even if it’s tempting to catch those extra z’s, grab the whole family and head outside to ensure you’re getting that much-needed time outside to both exercise and expose yourself to sunlight to ensure your body is producing enough vitamin D.

2. Plan a pool or lake day. Head to the nearest pool or perhaps Lake Monroe to cool off on these hot summer days. Of course, before you head into the water, make sure you have all the right tools to protect you from the elements!

3. Plan a day of indoor, brain-stimulating activities. Couldn’t beat the heat? Plan a day inside that is full of puzzles, forts, science experiments, and other fun and challenging activities that will keep your children’s brains stimulated all day long!

4. Gather in the kitchen to teach your children healthy summer recipes. It may be too hot to turn on the oven or stove, but that doesn’t mean cooking is off the table! Get the whole family involved and pick some healthy recipes to cool down with. If you need some ideas, try these: fresh fruit salad, homemade fruit popsicles, or no-bake protein balls.

Don’t let these hot summer days keep you and your family from making life-long memories. Slow down, reset, and fill the rest of your summer with fun, healthy activities that the whole family will reminisce on for summers to come!
