For most, school is out, and summer is totally on! This means fun outdoor activities and exercises are also in full swing. Although, as the temperature rises and summer schedules get more hectic, we can often refer back to unhealthy habits of binge-watching our favorite shows, staying seated for too long, and eating junk food in our spare time. Don’t let this happen to you this summer, and instead, keep these five tips in mind to live your best and healthiest summer yet!

Move more, sit less. Regular physical activity is one of the most important things you can do for your health. Active people generally live longer and are at less risk for serious health problems. Make it a goal to get at least 150 minutes of aerobic physical activity every week this summer!

Wear sunscreen and insect repellent. Protecting your skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays and the dangers of insect bites does more than just protect your skin, it also protects your overall health. Use shade, wide-brimmed hats, clothing that covers your skin, and broad-spectrum sunscreen for sun protection. Use insect repellent and wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants to prevent mosquito bites and ticks, as well.

Keep cool in extreme heat. As the summer progresses, so do the temperatures. Extreme heat can be dangerous for everyone, but it may be especially dangerous for people with chronic medical conditions.

Eat a healthy diet. In the heat and with increased activity, fueling your body with a nutritious diet will help you thrive no matter the season. By eating a healthy diet you’re also supporting your muscles, boosting your immune system, strengthening your bones, aiding your digestive system functions, and so much more!

Rethink your drink. Stay hydrated this summer by drinking water instead of sugary or alcoholic drinks. By drinking enough water each day, you don’t just prevent dehydration, but it also provides a wide assortment of health benefits to your body, reducing your caloric intake, regulating your normal body temperature, increasing your skin’s elasticity, and more!
