The Herald Times: Foundation Ready to Lead (Letter to the Editor, 5.14.18)

To the editor:

Recently, The Herald-Times published an opinion editorial by Angela Parker (“Change coming; progress is an imperative,” April 30) regarding the decision of the Bloomington Health Foundation (BHF) to remain an independent and locally controlled nonprofit in support of IU Health Bloomington Hospital as well as other health-related organizations in our region.

As a board member with Bloomington Hospital/IU Health Bloomington Hospital and the BHF since 1989, I can attest to the important role the foundation has played in supporting patients, families, health care providers, facilities and services for over 50 years. One sees the local impact of the BHF in programs such as the Olcott Center, the creation of Hospice House and the purchase of much-needed equipment for the hospital. The foundation has also been a strong community partner with Volunteers in Medicine and Meals on Wheels.

Now the new Bloomington Health Foundation will be a major force in focusing resources and programs for significant health care issues facing us today. We all care deeply about the quality of life we expect to enjoy in our region. The Bloomington Health Foundation is prepared to be a leader in supporting initiatives that create a healthy community — please join us in that quest.
