BLOOMINGTON –The newly-rebranded Bloomington Health Foundation has announced more than $1 million in gifts to various community organizations. The foundation says the investments are part of its new High-Impact Community Health Solutions Initiative to address “some of the most pressing health needs in Bloomington and neighboring counties.”
The BHF says half of the funding will go to programs at IU Health Bloomington Hospital, with the remainder going to multiple organizations throughout the community. Some of the recipients include:
- Volunteers in Medicine
- Monroe County United Ministries
- Catholic Charities
- Centerstone
- City of Bloomington
- Bloomington Parks Foundation
- IU Health Olcott Center
- Monroe County Community Health Clinic
- IU Health Community Health
“It’s no secret that we, as do many communities across our state and country, have significant opportunities to improve our overall health,” said Jonathan Barada, chief executive officer of the BHF. “As a Health Foundation, by definition, we are committed to our local hospitals. But, our expanded community health focus also affords opportunity for the Foundation to provide cross-sector leadership, collaboration and coordination in addressing our community’s health needs.”
The BHF was previously known as the Bloomington Hospital Foundation and was the sole philanthropic agent of the hospital. The organization announced its rebranding in February and will continue to partner with the hospital, but is now operating as a locally-controlled independent nonprofit.
