New Hope for Families Brightening Futures

November 21, 2022

According to New Hope for Families, there are 39 families in Bloomington that are homeless, including 88 children. New Hope for Families works tirelessly to assist these families in various ways as they go through troubling times. This not-for-profit organization first opened its doors in 2011 and was the first and only emergency housing solution in Monroe Country that kept families together. Their goal was to help families in Bloomington who have walked through difficult times get back on their feet and create a sustainable lifestyle.

New Hope for Families continues to assist these families in different ways with one being through child care. The non-profit provides childhood care and education programs that allow parents to get back to work while also brightening their children’s futures. According to New Hope, most parents who have children enrolled in an early childhood education program were able to get and maintain employment.

New Hope also provides shelter for these families. As the only complex in Monroe County to provide housing where parents and children stick together, this is a place these families call home until they find quality, stable housing. Allowing families to stay together during homelessness leads to moving into stable housing more quickly. New Hope for Families has shown that it is successful in providing homeless families with shelter and future housing stability. Their stable housing has an 80% success rate versus the state average of 52%.

New Hope for Families is the third not-for-profit organization that the Bloomington Health Foundation (BHF) has awarded grants to through our 2022 Request for Proposal process. Through New Hope’s continued assistance to vulnerable children through housing, education, and child care, they embody our core support area of health services.

Stay tuned to learn more about the last two grantees and the impactful initiatives they’re implementing to make Bloomington a healthier community.
