How to Stay Safe This Halloween, 6 Tips for Staying Healthy as the Weather Cools
How to Stay Safe This Halloween
As many families and children head out in costumes to trick-or-treat this weekend, it’s still important to continue to include regular safety practices in your Halloween traditions.
Here are a few ways to keep your families’ traditions alive while avoiding any type of health scare on this spooky holiday!
Think outside. Sticking to small groups that are trick-or-treating outdoors will decrease your chances of catching any kind of viruses. Being outdoors also allows you more opportunities to distance yourself from others. If you plan to give out treats this year, consider sitting outside and having your goodies prepackaged for the trick-or-treaters to take. If you plan to attend any other spooky events this year, try choosing outdoor activities instead of indoor ones. Rather than a haunted house, consider a haunted forest or corn maze.
Mask up indoors. If you do decide to attend any indoor events this Halloween, be sure to wear a face mask and social distance from others, if possible. You could also encourage your child to make a mask a part of their costume! Whether it’s a surgeon, a superhero, or buying one specific to your costume, it is a fun way to ensure your child’s health!.
Make traditions at home. Making new or continuing Halloween traditions at home can be just as memorable! If you’re not looking to leave the house this year, try these ideas: pumpkin carving/decorating, making Halloween-themed treats, a spooky movie night, or a scavenger hunt in the yard!
With these regular safety practices, we hope you and your family have a healthy and spooky Halloween!
6 Tips for Staying Healthy as the Weather Cools
As the temperatures start to drop and the holiday season is almost upon us, staying healthy can seem more important than ever.
When we are indoors more frequently during colder months, we are also often closer to other people. This can increase your chances of catching different viruses and deplete your immune system. That’s why it’s important to do your part in keeping yourself as healthy as possible!
Here are a few reminders on how to start this new season as the healthiest version of yourself:
- Wash your hands frequently. It is the best way to protect yourself from catching illnesses and spreading germs.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth as it can decrease your chances of catching viruses.
- Stay hydrated, so you can flush toxins out of your system.
- Get enough sleep to keep your immune system strong.
- Make nutritious choices. Eating a diet full of vegetables, fruits, lean protein, and whole grains can help fuel your body.
- Stay active. Shorter days and colder weather may lead you to exercise less, but even moderate exercise, like a brisk walk, raking leaves, or climbing stairs, can help you stay healthy.
These may seem like simple ways to stay healthy, but they are often underestimated. Try them out for yourself, and do your part in staying healthy this winter!
