$4.5 million in Mental Health Grants for Indiana

May 18, 2023

On Tuesday, May 15, 2023, the Biden-Harris Administration announced more than $95 million in awards across 35 states to increase access to school-based mental health services and strengthen the pipeline of mental health professionals in high-needs school districts.

The awards were funded by the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act (BSCA), which President Biden signed into law on June 25, 2022, and they help advance the Administration’s efforts to tackle the mental health crisis in our schools as part of his National Mental Health Strategy.

The Department of Education estimates that more than $4.5 million in Indiana grants will allow nearly 350 new mental health professionals to be hired and trained in Indiana schools. Indiana recipients include Indiana University Bloomington, Trustees of Indiana University, Marian University, and Fort Wayne Community Schools, to name a few.

Bloomington Health Foundation identifies mental health as one of our key impact areas. Empowering community partners that provide mental health services, including emotional, psychological, and social well-being with support of more than $500,000 since 2018 has helped countless individuals receive care.

Together, we can work to combat the mental health epidemic in America. To learn more about how you can help yourself and others in your community, click here.
