In a recent press release, Catholic Charities Bloomington (CCB) shared that their requests for mental health services experienced a 300% increase due to the negative effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The release states, “Between 2019 and 2021, the number of therapy sessions completed at Catholic Charities Bloomington (CCB) grew from about 650 per month to 925– an increase of 70%. CCB projects to provide a whopping 10,000 therapy sessions by the end of its fiscal year on June 30.”

BHF partnered with the organization in 2018 as part of over $1m in grants benefiting various health-related community causes, including the expansion of local mental health resources. More than a quarter-million was awarded to CCB to provide a new caseworker and an additional therapist, increasing availability by approximately 1,600 appointments annually. In March, BHF shared an update on the impact of that grant which can be found here.
